Their products ensure safe and consistent handling of diverse materials, from food products to wind turbines to paper manufacturing equipment. Based in the Nordics, the company’s solutions are distributed globally, serving a wide range of customers across multiple sectors.

Customer Challenge

This large Helsinki-based multinational faced significant challenges due to the absence of a centralized system for managing bank guarantee-related information. They had limited corporate visibility into the guarantees requested, no clear processes in place, and insufficient insight into their available bank credit facilities. To overcome these hurdles related to fragmented visibility, ambiguous workflows, and lack of transparency in credit facilities, our RIVO™  SaaS platform utilized a variety of AWS services to offer a comprehensive solution.

Solution Overview

Our collaborative guarantee management platform RIVO™ provided the customer with enhanced visibility, structured processes, and better control over their bank guarantee requests with the banks. By implementing this solution, we centralized information, established clear workflows, and granted clear visibility into the customer’s bank credit lines.

RIVO™ uses Amazon S3 for document storage, allowing integration with third-party document management systems. Through cross-region replication, we ensured data reliability and accessibility across multiple regions. OpenSearch allows indexing of documents for easy retrieval, which is crucial for a guarantee management platform, enabling users to access relevant files within the context of their transactions.

To manage a distributed operating concept, RIVO™ relies on AWS CloudFront, the Content Delivery Network (CDN), for global distribution of content. By utilizing the AWS backbone network, we achieved low-latency access for users in different locations. Additionally, our disaster recovery (DR) strategy employed Amazon S3 for data backup and cross-region synchronization, ensuring data resilience and high availability.

Our application monitoring and alerting system is powered by Amazon CloudWatch and other external tools like DataDog. A 24/7 Network Operations Center (NOC) receives these alerts and takes appropriate action based on predefined runbooks, ensuring quick response to any issues. AWS S3 is used for centralized storage of logs and alerts, providing a unified view of system health, allowing our cloud operations team to support the customer effectively.

The user interface is developed using React, adhering to UI/UX best practices, with client-server interactions facilitated through AWS API Gateway. The application architecture follows a micro-frontend and microservices approach, orchestrated by Amazon EKS (Elastic Kubernetes Service), enabling robust support for scalability. Kubernetes Cluster Autoscaler automatically adjusts the number of nodes in response to pod failures or other needs, optimizing resource utilization and enhancing scalability.

Access and permissions are managed by Surecomp’s Global IT with Single Sign-On (SSO) via Okta and Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). VPNs and secured partitions are employed to ensure secure access. As a SaaS solution, RIVO™ is protected from Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks using AWS Shield and other 3rd-party tools like Amazon Inspector and Tenable. AWS API Gateway has built-in DDoS protection through throttling and traffic filtering. Integration with AWS WAF (Web Application Firewall) provides an additional layer of protection by allowing the definition and enforcement of custom rules to filter and block malicious traffic.

With these comprehensive security features, our RIVO™ SaaS platform provides the customer with the confidence that their data and operations are protected against various types of attacks and unauthorized access, ensuring business continuity and compliance with industry-standard security practices.
